Hi, I'm Angela, and I first qualified in massage (at the time of writing), nearly thirty years ago. Scary, huh? A lot has changed in the world of massage since then. New ways of performing effective massage, new tools, new ways of connecting with clients, and most importantly much more scientific research proving some of the 'facts' that I was taught at that first massage qualification, wrong. This is most definitely a good thing.

How on earth is that good?
While it isn't ideal that we weren't taught the actual facts at the time, it's a bit like medicine - the Hippocratic Oath states 'first do no harm'. The guidelines we were given were to ensure that we wouldn't create a bigger problem for the client. I was taught never to massage someone with cancer, for example. Research showed that it doesn't cause cancer to spread. Rather, it has a positive impact on cancer patients. I'm happy to say that some specialist cancer care hospitals now have massage programs in place for their patients.
What to expect from this blog?
The goal: a place where I post regularly on massage-related subjects such as the power of touch, trauma, research, and random related things.
The probably reality: it might not be as regularly as it should be.
Hope to see you next time!
